Intelligence in the Universe
Magic vrs Science
The concept of "randomness" is a lot
more fluid and ellusive than it may appear at first. A sequence of numbers is random as
long as we can't predict what the next number will be. And we can't predict it as long as
we don't know the pattern or formula being used to produce the numbers. But what if we
haven't noticed the pattern? When we suddenly become aware of the pattern, the
"random" sequence can stop being random and become "organized".
A picture may appear as a distorted set of curves and splashes of color.... until you
suddenly adjust your vision and realize that there is a face looking up at you. Who is
that looking at you from the midst of chaos?
Given this as a foundation, there are two
possible "stances" or "postures" that can be taken towards an unknown
pattern. You can assume its "randomness" and continue to see it as
"random" as long as the opposite is not proven. Or you can start from the
opposite end.
For our purposes, we can start from the
assumption that there is "intelligence" hiding behind every pattern, behind
every form that meets our path. We are not affirming this is as true, but affirming that
this is the necessary "posture" required for our purposes. Be very aware of that
distinction.
When you begin to assume that all patterns are
intelligent, the whole world around you changes. You are no longer distinguishing between
the "noise" and the "message". You are now faced with an infinite
spectrum of messages and complex webs of information. And most of these messages are not
even coming from a human source! You are still forced to pick (your forebrain is not
capable of processing all of it at once) but now you have a wider spectrum from which to
pick. You are starting to open up to the wider intergallactic radio bands....
Of course, it's easier said than done.

If we "understand" a signal, what can
that mean? Setting aside subjective concepts of your ability to follow a language or any
kind of code, what is left of the word "understanding"? In other words, can you
"understand" something that is not part of a code?
If you receive a message that is not "in
code" and has no counterpart to any other kind of message that you can
"decipher", then you have received a message from "Elsewhere". But how
can it be said that you understand it? How can something completely alien to your human
experience be "understood"?
If I ring a tuning fork that is tuned to a
particular note, close to my guitar strings, the guitar strings will start to sound in a
reaction of resonance to the vibration of the tuning fork. The waves of sound that the
fork creates travel through the air and the strings, being tuned to a similar frequency,
respond by vibrating in sympathy.
If you can vibrate to a particular frequency
message that is being sent, that particular frequency can then act as a carrier wave for a
complex message, and through your resonance, your inner "strings" will resonate
to the message.
Can we say that this is
"understanding"? How does this "understanding" feel?
Experiment 1: "THOUGHT AS SOUND"
Sit in a relatively quiet place where you
won't be disturbed or go for a walk in an area that is not too crowded or full of
obstacles.
Set a timer on your watch for five minutes.
Allow your mind to wander. Let it do what it
does. Think! (Does it feel more difficult when you actually want to do it? Isn't that
always the way!!!?? Wait... is that always the way? Wait a second...)
Place your full attention on your thoughts.
Let the thoughts wander through you and
perceive them as "sound". Try to not make any distinction between
"words", "noise" or "music". Allow yourself to hear it
internally as pure raw sound.
Concentrate on the shapes of the "thought
sounds": their pitches, their volume, their tempo or "speed", their
rhythms.
When the timer sounds, stop and go back to
"normal" if at all possible. (Otherwise wait quietly for the men in white to
come to get you.)
Experiment 2: "SOUND AS THOUGHT"
Sit in a relatively quiet place where you
won't be disturbed or go for a walk in an area that is not too crowded or full of
obstacles.
Set a timer on your watch for five minutes.
Listen to all the sounds around you. As much
as possible, don't "classify" or "discriminate". Just listen to all
the sounds that are all around you as objectively and lovingly as possible.
Place your full attention on the world of
sound around you.
Slowly allow the sounds around you to become
your "thoughts". Let the maelstrom of sound around you literally invade you and
become your inner thoughts.
If you have an inner dialogue going on, don't
fight with it, but allow the sounds all around you to displace it, to push it aside, to
swallow it in its greater power.
Let those "sound shapes" all around
take you over and become you. If you feel resistance allow it to pass.
When the timer sounds, go back to
"normal".

We have more than one way to process the
information around us, more than one brain or "intelligent center". For the
purpose of being simple and direct, let's clearly divide these centers into three: the
"moving", the "emotional" and the "intellectual". All three
centers (or "brains") have a large amount of processing power or
"intelligence" but the way in which they work and the basic matter that they
process is different.
Most of have been trained to listen to our
"intellectual" brains at the expense of the others. To "think things
through" is ideal and to be expected of "mature" individuals. To act on
"impulse" is seen as inmature or unworthy of a real adult. To "let your
heart guide you" is seen as a recipe for disaster! This may all be true, and yet, in
placing all the power or emphasis on one brain over the others, we are severely limiting
our possibilities and experience in the world. Even worse, we are saying no to ourselves,
we are ignoring our own realizations and setting them aside. We are betraying our own
bodies!
Experiment 1: THE MOOD OF THE ROOM
Go to any particular room. This can be in your
house or in a public area. The room can be crowded or completely empty except for you. The
only requirement is that people not be talking directly to you while you are trying this
experiment.
Look around you and try to let the visuals and
sounds of the room invade you completely. Try to avoid making any judgements or deductions
about what you are seeing and hearing, just let it wash into you and through you.
Now, concentrating a part of your attention on
your solar plexus, try to "sense" the "mood" of the room. Don't worry
about what these words may mean. Just do these however it feels right to you.
As the "mood" becomes apparent,
allow it to invade you through the solar plexus, just like you allowed the sounds and
visuals before.
When you are fully inmersed in this
"mood", make an impression (something like a mental photograph) that connects
this mood to the sounds and visuals that you are perceiving.
Save this mental photograph. We will call it a
"marker".
Take a few deep breaths and relax. Let all the
energy flow out.
Experiment 2: THE PHYSICAL QUALITIES OF THE
ROOM
Go to any particular room. This can be in your
house or in a public area. The room can be crowded or completely empty except for you. The
only requirement is that people not be talking directly to you while you are trying this
experiment.
Close your eyes and "feel" the room
with your body. Let the sheer physical nature of the room invade your senses and your
attention.
Now place part of your attention in you lower
abdomen and allow that area of you to resonate with the room.
With your eyes closed, allow your attention to
unify the vibration in you lower abdomen with the vibration of the room as a whole.
As you feel your attention expand outward,
become "one" with the room.
When the room is "you" and you are
the "room" (even if for only a moment) make a mental "photograph", a
sudden and instant impression of what you are sensing and feeling, without any judgement
or intellectual realization.
Save this "photograph". We can call
it a "marker".
Take a few deep breaths and relax. Let all the
energy flow out.

Now, for a message to be "non-random"
or "intelligent", a traditional logical, scientific mind would assume that it
needs to be understood by our "intellect" in some fashion. What is least
understandable by our intellect is that which is farthest away from our human perspective.
The closer to our human perspective a message gets, the more it is understandable, the
more "intelligent" it will seem. Until the most intelligent messages are seen as
those created and propagated by other humans. So it is a simple logical step to conclude
that humans are the most intelligent beings in the known universe. Simple.
CAN YOU SEE THE CIRCLE IN THAT?
Ancient shamanism and magic assume the opposite.
They start from finding intelligence everywhere, as an underlying foundation for all that
exists. A shaman will listen to the wind, to the trees, to the birds, to the cars as they
drive by, to the clash of techno music and news broadcasts as two radios get closer
together... the shaman will find "intelligence" everywhere. And will respect it.
Whether the shaman understands it or not, the inherent "intellegence" of every
vibration around us will be worthy of respect.
So our human perspective becomes just another
point of view in a sea of consciousness, of magnificent intelligence that forever escapes
our grasp. And what we need to learn is no longer how to classify or codify or restrict or
enforce.... but to swim in this endless ocean of mind.
TO SWIM IS NOT TO REST
WE DON'T SEEK AN ENDING POINT
WE DON'T SEEK A PLACE
WE DON'T WISH FOR AN END
THERE IS NO END
